The Department of Companion Animals and Horses at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna offers a position (starting October 1st, 2008) for a resident in animal reproduction (Supervisor: Prof. Christine Aurich, Dipl. ECAR).

Applications are invited for a three-year residency position in animal reproduction (Subfield: Equine Reproduction) at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, Austria (Dept. IV: Section for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Andrology, and Section for Artificial Insemination and Embryo Transfer). The University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna, is approved as a training institution by the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR) and the American College of Theriogenologists (ACT).

The Residency is a full-time position and includes clinical duties, clinical teaching of veterinary students and participation in research. The resident will be part of a team that includes 3 ECAR diplomates.

The programme is designed to fulfill the requirements to qualify for the ECAR or ACT examination. The programme includes in depth clinical training and participation in out-of-hour clinical services. In addition, residents are expected to spend up to 6 months at the Centre for Artificial Insemination and Embryo Transfer of the Brandenburg State Stud, Germany. The programme focusses on equine reproduction but in accordance with ECAR and ACT examinations, participation is required in the treatment of small animals and farm animals with reproductive disorders.

Requirements: Graduation from an approved European veterinary school or equivalent institution in other countries. Applicants must have completed a one-year relevant internship programme or equivalent work in an animal hospital or veterinary practice and must be fluent in German and/or English.

Job Description

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Farm Animal Field Service Position

The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking to fill a full-time, 100% clinical or tenure-track Assistant Professor position in farm animal ambulatory services.  The position will be 50% professional practice, 20% teaching and 30% discovery.  However, final decisions on percent allocation within the position will be based on appointment title.  The successful candidate must have a DVM or equivalent degree, and have completed a residency in theriogenology and an advanced degree in a discipline focused in farm animal production medicine.  Board certification in Theriogenology is desired.  The successful candidate will be expected to provide herd health and production medicine services for beef and dairy producers; contribute to the instruction of professional students and house officers in theriogenology and reproduction, and have effective communications with clients and referring veterinarians.  The candidate will work with one other theriogenologist to provide clinical services for the bull test station and cattle residing on the East Tennessee Research and Education Center farms.  The successful candidate will be expected to either establish a stand alone research program or establish collaborative research programs with other investigators.  Participation in the scholarship of clinically relevant or basic science research programs will be essential for progression towards promotion and tenure.  The College of Veterinary Medicine considers the training of professional students in the disciplines of farm/food animal herd health and production medicine as a strong priority.

A full-time faculty position in food animal medicine is available in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University. The position is a 12-month tenure track appointment. Applicants should have a DVM or equivalent and be board certified or board eligible in a relevant practitioner board or specialty college with veterinary experience in clinical practice. Preference will be given to applicants with an advanced graduate degree. The successful candidate will participate in clinical service / teaching through the local food animal ambulatory practice, with emphasis on beef cattle and meat goats and will be expected to support and maintain this portion of the Food Animal Service. Eligibility for special/regular licensure by the Texas State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners is required.
