In the 1960’s efforts began to establish an American Veterinary Medical Association recognized
specialty in veterinary reproduction. The ACT received approval by the AVMA’s House of Delegates
in 1971. The activities
of the College include the advancement of knowledge and competence;
undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate education; research; and clinical service in theriogenology. The ACT serves as the certifying organization
which recognizes veterinarians as specialists in theriogenology.
The Theriogenology Foundation was formed in 2009 to secure and allocate resources dedicated to advancing the science and practice of animal reproductive medicine. The TF supports education and research while offering annual scholarships for outstanding students of veterinary medicine. Formed in 1954, the Society for Theriogenology is an international organization of veterinary professionals dedicated to animal reproduction, whose mission is to promote standards of excellence in reproductive medicine, to provide outreach and education to veterinarians, and to foster continual improvements in theriogenology. The Society in collaboration with the American College of Theriogenologists, sponsors an annual conference which provides continuing education opportunities.
