Congratulations Dr. John Dascanio 2018 Theriogenologist of the Year
Dr. Dascanio received his doctor of veterinary medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1988 and completed his internship and residency at Cornell University. Subsequently, he became board certified with the American College of Theriogenologists and the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Equine).
Dascanio worked up through the ranks of assistant and associate professor of Production Management Medicine at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, and then as director of the Large Animal Research Park and Professor of Theriogenology at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. He then joined Lincoln Memorial University-College of Veterinary Medicine as a professor of theriogenology and director of large animal clinical skills in August 2014. The American College of Theriogenologists is a veterinary specialty organization, recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Mission Statement
The mission of the ACT is to promote animal well-being, reproductive health, responsible breeding and genetic practices, and efficient management of breeding-age animals in agriculture, veterinary practice, zoos, preserves, and ecosystems. In particular, the ACT envisions development of focus areas in theriogenology to incorporate the following in theriogenology/reproductive medicine:
1. Population control for domestic and non-domestic animals including feral animals, free-ranging and captive wildlife.
2. Genomics in livestock and companion animal practice.
