The ACT is happy to introduce a supplemental educational opportunity for its trainees. An online reproductive physiology course is now available through Auburn University, with access facilitated by the ACT.

“Employing research-validated instructional design and based on content presented in Pathways to Pregnancy and Parturition (3rd Edition, by PL Senger), the intent of Reproductive Science & Health (RSH) on-line is to increase educational flexibility and extend the reach of this discipline globally to all with an interest in teaching and learning about the function of the reproductive system in animals and humans.”

Registration for the next session will open October 1, 2025.

This course is designed to provide a basis in reproductive physiology and can be taken at the trainee’s own pace within one year. There is an opportunity to chat with fellow classmates and a designated ACT monitor (Dr. Aime Johnson).

The cost of registration for the course is $125 for a year of access. 

Becoming an ACT Diplomate

The American College of Theriogenologists is an AVMA-recognized veterinary specialty organization. Our reproductive specialists undergo considerable post-graduate training beyond the six to eight years of college education normally required to earn a veterinary degree. This post-graduate training lays the groundwork for a candidate to take a certification examination leading to Diplomate status.

ACT Diplomates must fulfill the following general requirements

1. Be a graduate of a college or school of veterinary medicine accredited by the AVMA, or possess a certificate issued by either the Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates (ECFVG) or the Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Educational Equivalence (PAVE) OR be legally qualified to practice veterinary medicine in some state, province, territory, or possession of the United States, Canada or another country. 
2. Demonstrate unquestionable moral character and impeccable professional behavior. 
3. Complete the education, training and experience requirements of one of the following training routes after graduating from a college or school of veterinary medicine:

Residency ("Standard" or "Traditional") Training Route

 Minimum of one (1) year of clinical practice followed by a minimum of two (2) additional years training in an ACT-approved residency program.

Mentorship/Alternate Route  

Candidates must have a minimum of six (6) years post-graduate (DVM or equivalent) experience with a major emphasis in Theriogenology including completion of a minimum of 104 weeks in an ACT-approved, mentored training program.

1. Register as a Candidate of ACT within 90 days of starting an Residency or Mentorship Program
2. Submit acceptable credentials to the College
3. Complete all requirements
4. Pass the Certifying Examination of the College
   

Graduate Degree Training Route

Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years post-DVM experience in addition to MSc degree, or a minimum of one (1) year post-DVM experience in addition to PhD degree. Post- DVM experience may include clinical practice, teaching or research but shall not include any activities performed while enrolled in the graduate program. 

1. Graduate degree route trainees must submit a plan of study for review with the ACT office at least 90 days prior to beginning the 52- week mentored study program.
2. Submit acceptable credentials to the College
3. Complete all requirements
4. Pass the Certifying Examination of the College
