Dr. Camilo Hernández-Avilés is an Assistant Professor of Equine Theriogenology in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences VLCS at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences VMBS. He received his DVM degree in 2018 from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and his PhD in Biomedical Sciences in 2022 from Texas A&M University. He completed a Residency in Equine Theriogenology in 2023, also at Texas A&M University, and became a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists in 2024.

Dr. Hernandez-Aviles' clinical and research interests mostly focus on stallion reproduction and assisted reproductive technologies in horses. Some of these include the study of stallion sperm physiology during fertilization, the use of molecular biology techniques for studying sperm function and stallion fertility, the validation of flow cytometry-based techniques for stallion sperm analysis in clinical settings, the effects of semen extender components and storage methods on the quality of cool-stored or cryopreserved stallion sperm, and the diagnosis and management of reproductive conditions in stallions.
